The Boeing X-32 was a multirole fighter in the Joint Strike Fighter competition. It was succeeded by the Lockheed Martin X-35 Demonstrator, which was developed as the F-35 Lightning II. Boeing has assembled two concept demonstration aircraft, the X-32A and X-32B, at its plant in Palmdale, California.

On September 18, 2000, the X-32A made its maiden flight and made a total of 66 flights during the four-month test period. The aircraft demonstrated aircraft handling qualities for in-flight refueling, weapons bay operations and supersonic flight.
The X-32B made its maiden flight on March 29, 2001. It made 78 test flights in four months, including a transcontinental ferry flight from Edwards Air Force Base to Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD. STOVL flight mode, direct thrust from the cruise nozzle to the lift nozzles of the aircraft using a direct lift system. The X-32B also demonstrated the ability to hover and land vertically.
The X-32 got the nickname "Monica" from famous White House intern's... uh... rhetorical skills as private pilot Cameron Beck described on Quora.

The new single-engine, Mach-1 capable aircraft is required to remain stealthy and provide the pilot with strong situational awareness during attacks on ground targets and fighting in air-to-air engagements. It was required to meet the specifications of the US Air Force, US Navy and US Marine Corps and the nation's partners. Lockheed eventually won the competition to produce the F-35 Lightning II.

However, despite not being selected for full-scale development of the JSF, Boeing saw its participation in the competition as a strategic investment. The program has made many advances in stealth technology and design and manufacturing methods. These achievements have been applied to other Boeing programs, including the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and the X-45A Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle, or UCAV.

In 2005, the Boeing X-32A was transferred to the National Museum of the United States Air Force near Dayton, Ohio. Since the JSF has been outside for several years since the end of the competition, its condition has deteriorated, but it is currently inside and slated for restoration.
The X-32B was launched in St. Transferred to Patuxent River Naval Air Museum adjacent to NAS Patuxent River in Marys County, Maryland. It underwent restoration at the museum's restoration facility in June 2009 and is now on display.
