Glock 34 Trigger - I started my career in the firearms industry in the late 90s working with Glock triggers. I had a version that broke under 2 pounds using modified stock parts except for the firing pin spring. Since then, I have completed more than 1000 startup projects. They are all out of date now thanks to Timny.
Glock opened its US offices in 1986. I'm amazed it took someone 35 years to do what Timney did to change the trigger. It's one of those simple things that you hit your head and say, "Why didn't I think of that?"
Glock 34 Trigger
The Alpha trigger is available in two versions. One for Glocks Gen 3 and 4 and another version for Glocks Gen 5. The Gen 5 uses a completely different trigger guard, firing pin, firing pin safety, trigger return spring and trigger housing. As a result, fifth generation guns cannot use previous generation ammunition.

On a factory Glock trigger, the trigger guard pulls the firing pin until it releases. The trigger guard is a stamped piece, and the area where it contacts the firing pin is usually hardened. This is an important place to smooth and adjust when working with a trigger. A stamped iron sliding over the edge of a well-made striker does not produce a nice smooth break.
When you pull the trigger, you also compress the firing pin spring. One of the oldest ways to get a Glock trigger lighter was to use an aftermarket lighter striker spring. Many say they are not faithful; they can be if they are not properly prepared. If they're done right, they're good. I have over 100,000 shots in various sporting Glocks with a light firing pin with no misfire issues.

Timny ended it all with an Alpha trigger. An aluminum sear housing replaces the trigger return spring in the trigger housing. The firing pin now interacts with the sear, and all the trigger does is lower the sear so the firing pin can fly. You now have perfectly finished mating surfaces, and the weight of the firing pin spring has very little effect on the weight of the trigger break.

With all standard factory parts, you can expect a breaking weight of 3-3.5 pounds when using an Alpha trigger. Not only is it lighter, it's also smoother and more defined, with less stacking and creep. Even with a good connector, I can still get a breaking weight of less than 4 pounds. If you want lightness, this is easy to achieve by changing the connector to a dot or remove for less than 3 pounds.

All of these weights have a factory shock spring. This is the biggest argument in favor of the Alpha bullet. You no longer need to use a light spring to get under 3 pounds. Factory springs are durable and provide reliable ignition for a wide range of ammunition. For example, if you have a few sloppy reloads where the primers didn't fire properly, they will probably still be sewn into the firing pin. With a simple player spring, you get something to click.
I have been shooting both versions of the trigger for the past few months and have done about 4000 shots with the Gen 3 and 1000 with the Gen 5. This is where I discovered the downside of this new trigger.

In May, I raced my Gen 3 in the Steel Challenge, and on the last lap, the hammer wouldn't let go of the striker. It was like an overtravel limit that had been adjusted incorrectly and prevented the trigger from fully retracting and releasing the firing pin. Instead of trying to fix it on the clock, I cleaned the gun and left it as is to take it apart and try to figure out what happened.
At the time of failure, my gun had fired about 2,500 rounds without cleaning. After disassembly, it turned out that a small piece of debris (dirt, piece of carbon, unfired gunpowder, etc.) got into the body of the sear and prevented the trigger guard from pushing down.
Although the problem is easily solved. Frequent cleaning is required. I recommend spraying both the factory trigger housing and the Timney sear housing with brake cleaner or similar every 500-1000 shots. Since I started doing this, I haven't had any problems with the Alpha trigger. One of the reasons for the popularity of Glocks is that you can be lazy and shoot thousands of shots without correction. With Timney Alpha, you can't be lazy. It's like a race car versus a daily driver. A modern production car can go 10,000 miles without maintenance. A race car is a high performance machine with tight tolerances and precision parts. Because of this, a race car usually needs to be completely disassembled or repaired every 500-1000 miles. This trigger is no different. Treat him well and he will treat you well.
My Gen 3 Alpha trigger was an early production model and some users had reset problems due to the trigger return spring being too weak. Timney quickly made changes and the kit now includes two return springs. If you have trouble resetting, just replace the stiffer return spring. Glock shooters who like heavy pressure for the discharge of standard weapons should start with a heavier red spring as it will be more familiar to them.

Not only did Timney replace the Glock trigger, but all three Glock factory safety locks are also fully functional with the Alpha. The fall arrest, striker stop and trigger guard work the same way as the stock. The trigger shoe on the Alpha is aluminum and the trigger guard is wider and more comfortable than the standard version.
Alpha is also adjustable for pre-travel or reception. Be very careful when repairing as you can easily remove the previous trip and short circuit all three fuses. I recommend leaving the pre-adjustment screw alone and removing it like Timny's.
I have tried many combinations of components in combination with Alpha. I prefer to install a factory negative connector, a factory firing pin, a lightweight factory firing pin, a light firing firing safety spring, and a red bullet return spring. I also tune and polish all metal mating surfaces - socket, firing pin and firing pin safety. This gives me a breaking weight of 2.2 lbs for the Type 3.
The Alpha trigger and sear are integrated with the NP3. Simply put, NP3 is chemical nickel coated with Teflon. Makes steel smooth and incredibly resistant to rust (it won't rust in Florida either). I've always been a big fan of NP3, so much so that most of the Ultimate 3 Gun Rifle was NP3ed. Although it's smooth, the Alpha's trigger does tend to rub, and that's where the trigger bar meets the socket and sear. I prefer Brian Enos' Slide Glide, but any good lube will do.

This table will help you understand what effect changing different parts of the trigger will have. All testing was done with the factory firing pin and gray or light colored trigger return spring. All other parts are factory unmodified. All measurements were taken with a digital Lyman trigger force indicator. Each setup was weighed five times and averaged to get the weights you see below.
